In light of the tragedy, Maddie tries to make nice, but Bonnie becomes increasingly vitriolic.
In theSweet Magnoliasbooks, none of this tension between Maddie and Bonnie exists.
That Helen and Dana Sue had arguably self-centered reactions to the wedding made it all the worse.
Unfortunately for Bill, the impact on the main charactersincluding his own childrenwas minimal at best.
