The sci-fi comedy has a habit of bringing back many of its supporting characters into unexpected circumstances.

This strengthens the universe of the show without undermining it too often in unexpected places.

However, that isn’t the case every time as seen in season 12’s “Cuteness Overload.”

However, that becomes a harder point to argue when poor orphans are still the same age decades later.

There may be a status quo, but characters have definitely evolved.

Because theFuturamatimeline matters,it’s important to note when it doesn’t work.

It undercuts that natural feeling of growth and draws attention to the fictional nature of the show.

Take for example, Amy and Kif’s children.

It’s also something that could be explained away easily, given the ridiculous nature of the setting.

Futurama follows the exploits of Philip J. Fry, a pizza delivery boy from 1999 who is cryogenically frozen for 1000 years. Waking up in the year 3000, Fry befriends a cyclops named Leela and a roguish robot named Bender, and the three find employment with Planet Express, an interplanetary delivery service. Their work takes them to all corners of the universe, exploring space and the future as imagined by Matt Groening and the creators of The Simpsons.

A more creative and compelling change could actually address this problem head on, however.

Younger characters could be finally aged up a bit, throwing new wrenches into the show’s dynamics.
