Doctor Who

The season premiere ofDoctor Who’slatest outing saw the introduction of Varada Sethu’s new companion, Belinda Chandra, who is unwillingly taken to a planet named after her and crowned the ruler of a tyrannical robot army.

“The Robot Revolution” is one of the show’s most entertaining episodes in a while, and Sethu immediately proved herself to be an invaluable addition toDoctor Who’s cast.

The episode also features plenty of new locations, machines, and time-travel concepts that prove the show still has new ideas to keep it moving forward.

One of these new machines is a small robot vacuum that immediately captured fans' attention asDoctor Who’s cutest new character.

While it’s unlikely to appear again in the show’s upcoming episodes, this little machine left a big impression and was heavily involved in"The Robot Revolution"’s explosive ending.

But whilethe character is certainly an original one that’s never been explored inDoctor Whobefore,it’s eerily similar to another character from a beloved Pixar movie.

The Cleaning Robot In Doctor Who’s “The Robot Revolution” Is Weirdly Similar To WALL-E’s M-O

The Two Cute Robots Have Similar Appearances & Purposes

The cleaning robot from “The Robot Revolution” and M-O from Pixar’sWALL-Eshare many traits.

Not only are they both small machines designed to clean floors and provide companionship to humans, but they both play pivotal roles in the climax of their respective stories.M-O rescues Eve and WALL-E when his cleaning route accidentally jams the airlock, whileDoctor Who’s robot delivers the star certificate to Belinda, who uses it to create a paradox and destroy Alan.

Ncuti Gatwa’s first season as the Fifteenth Doctor sidelined him in two separate episodes, and Doctor Who season 15 proves that isn’t over yet.

There are certainly differences in the designs of these two characters, but they’re similar enough to sustain suspicions that Russell T. Davies' machine may be a subtle reference to the Pixar movie.Doctor Whois always referencing other sci-fi projects, whether directly or indirectly, and it’s surprising that a movie as popular asWALL-Ehasn’t already been paid homage to in the BBC show.

Doctor Who’s Missbelindachandrabots Also Felt Eerily Familiar

The Story Could Have Easily Been A Cyberman Adventure

Interestingly, it wasn’t just the cleaning robot that felt familiar inDoctor Who’s latest episode.

“The Robot Revolution” could easily have been a Cybermen adventure, as the mechanical army bore countless similarities to this iconicDoctor Whovillain.

With all the talk of merging, upgrading, and controlling humans, the Missbelindachandrabots are essentially Cybermen in all but name.

Even the design of Alan’s cyborg form is very reminiscent of otherDoctor Whocharacters who have been merged with Cyber-tech in the past, such as Bill Potts or Danny Pink.
