According to Johnny, he was fighting for revenge during the tournament after what Daniel put him through.
Daniel, on the other hand, wanted to honor his sensei’s teachings.
Someone that determined and with such strong beliefs could not be defeated, and Johnny eventually understood that.
Johnny acknowledging this at the end ofCobra Kaicould not have been a better way to end the show.
