He’s suspicious of everyone, and yet too trusting of his friends.
In this sense,Garibaldi is an ideal audience POV character in the sci-fi setting.
He’s intelligent enough to figure out problems, but not flawless enough to keep himself from making them.
Garibaldi is just a guy, going to work and doing his best.
Bester was able to use the character’s already-established personality to do the heavy lifting.
However, the Garibaldi hologram quickly uses his wits to trick the attending scientist into lowering his guard.
Garibaldi highlights the heroic, fragile, and ultimatelyenduring humanity that needs to underscore every good sci-fi setting.
